How's your heart today?

Complete your check to see which zone you're in and what to do next.

Green: stable. Keep going with your usual routine.
Amber: contact your heart failure nurse, GP or cardiology team today.
Red: call your local emergency number now.

This check is a self-care aid based on common heart failure guidance (for example, a gain of 1 kg / 2 lb overnight or 2 kg / 4 lb in three days). Always follow the personal limits and action plan from your own care team. It does not diagnose or replace medical advice.

Tool 03

Calm-heart breathing.

Fear and health anxiety are common after a diagnosis. Slow breathing with a longer out-breath can help settle your nervous system. Follow the heart: breathe in as it grows, out as it softens.

Inspired by Katrina's work as a clinical hypnotherapist. Breathe gently through your nose if you can, and stop if you feel light-headed.

Why weight matters

A quick rise in weight over a day or two is more likely to be fluid than fat. Catching it early gives your care team the chance to adjust treatment before symptoms get worse.
